What we collect and why
When you set up and use BiteBuddy, we process the age, sex, height, weight, goal weight and pace, activity level, food and nutrition entries, calorie and macro targets, and progress you provide. We use these to estimate targets, show your history, and calculate game and Battle progress. If you choose Apple Health, BiteBuddy reads only the categories you authorize. Depending on app version, these can include active or resting energy, steps, workouts, weight, and height for personal targets and profile updates. BiteBuddy does not write to Apple Health or use Health data for ads. Health values may be synced to your BiteBuddy account, which Supabase processes for us. If you choose AI meal scanning, we process the meal image and editable estimate you request. A barcode lookup can reveal dietary interests when linked to your account. Battle scores and goal snapshots can reflect health-related inputs.
BiteBuddy does not currently create private wellness-pattern evaluations. Records created while an earlier evaluation feature was enabled, if any, remain subject to the retention and deletion rules below. A locked day does not prove every food consumed was logged.
Where it comes from
Sources are you and your entries; the camera or photo you choose for an AI scan; Apple Health only after you grant permission; food-label and barcode information returned by Open Food Facts; and BiteBuddy calculations based on those inputs. Other users can provide Battle or community content that relates to you. You may include health information in a support request or community post; please avoid sensitive details you do not want to share with its intended recipients.
Who receives it
Supabase hosts account, nutrition, Battle, and private safety records as a service provider. Google Gemini receives a prepared meal image when you deliberately request an AI estimate; BiteBuddy does not send your account ID, history, or location with that image. Open Food Facts receives a product barcode lookup, not your BiteBuddy account ID. Apple Health remains under your device permissions; BiteBuddy receives only the categories you permit. Friends and Battle participants can see the profile, roster, score, and result information the feature displays, which may reflect nutrition-derived progress. Cloudflare holds encrypted database backups and may process public-website traffic; GitHub Actions runs the backup workflow and may process backup data transiently. Resend delivers account emails and support notifications, and Google Workspace hosts the support inbox; if you include health details in a support request, those details may reach those email services. BiteBuddy does not send food, weight, goal, HealthKit, or private wellness-pattern values to Google Mobile Ads, analytics providers, or data brokers, and does not sell consumer health data.
For the purposes of Washington law, any health-related information intentionally made visible to another user through a chosen social or Battle feature is shared with that intended recipient. We do not use a corporate affiliate to receive consumer health data. Service providers process data under our instructions for the purposes above; provider terms and actual data flows are reviewed as part of launch readiness.
Retention and deletion
Food history and saved health-derived values are generally kept while the account exists. Scan-job details are generally kept for about 30 days. Previously recorded wellness signals are scheduled for deletion within 90 days; historical safeguard transition records, if any, may be kept for up to two years unless a legal or safety hold applies. BiteBuddy does not currently create new wellness-pattern records. Battle, reward, consent, and fraud-integrity records may be kept longer in de-linked form where necessary. Encrypted backups and provider logs have separate retention schedules. Deleting your BiteBuddy account starts removal of your linked health data and applicable processor copies; a narrowly required record may be retained or de-linked. See the Privacy Policy for the broader schedule.
Your choices and rights
You can review and correct food estimates and entries, revoke Apple Health access in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices, choose manual logging instead of AI scanning, and delete your account in Profile → Account & Privacy or through our web deletion flow. App versions with Disconnect Apple Health stop future reads and remove saved raw snapshots; existing profile and weight-history entries remain because they may include manual edits. For access to your consumer health data, a list of recipients, correction, withdrawal of applicable consent, deletion, or an appeal of a denied request, contact support or email support@bitebuddyapp.online. We may need to verify your identity, but you need not create a new account to make a request. We respond within the time required by applicable law and explain any permitted extension or refusal. Withdrawing optional consent stops future processing that depends on that consent; it does not undo processing already completed or processing necessary for a service you still request.
